It was our second day trip at Wayanad. After Edakkal caves, we planned for a visit to Pookot Lake, the most popular tourist attractions. It is a beautiful place to be around. It offers a tranquil experience, a getaway closer to Vythiri resort.
Pookot Lake is just a 15 minutes’ drive and located in Kalpetta.
Pookode Lake is one of the natural fresh water lake amidst mountains and dense trees.. The place is well maintained to keep it litter free zone.
Monkeys menace will always be there in places abound in trees; and mountains to add to it! Pookot Lake serves as a natural habitat for monkeys. You must be careful with your belongings. Those little monkeys might get hold of it looking for any eatables. This little guy has snatched a pack of crisps from a little girl!
There are row and paddle boats available for boating. Paddle Boat costs 100 Rs for 20 minutes. They do provide life jackets and it’s a must before you step into the boat. However, they aren’t good in shape. You need to choose one among the pile!
I’ve never been on a boat and I was all excited to see how it turns out to be… It’s not hard, you simply sit and pedal. Lazz took the control of paddling around, while I was busy in taking photos..

There are shops selling tea and other homemade herbal products apart from spices. Besides boating, they have a small aquarium. They also have Fish spa and I’m not quite fond of it!
The place reminds us one of those beaches in Andaman Islands with dense trees around. And, the tiny pink flower of hydrilla looks like shimmers in the water. It is one of the places to visit in leisure and do not expect for a much to spend your evening here.
You just have to be open to see the magic around!!
