With mystique picturesque Himalayan valley as a backdrop and Kashmir nestled just below, this beautiful paradise soaked in silence, still remains as a bizarre state by its own rules…
We took the flight from Chennai to Delhi; and, then a train from there to Jammu. Post the sumptuous meal at the restaurant; we boarded the bus to Srinagar. Climbing up the hill, the exquisiteness of Jhelum River flowing magnificently in the heart of Srinagar, all along the banks, enthralls you despite the slow paced moving vehicles at an altitude of 1730 m.
You could skip the road trip and book a direct flight to Srinagar. Take a look at here: Our Road Trip to Srinagar
So here’s our 2-day Kashmir itinerary that will help make your travel plan easier covering the top places to visit in Kashmir!
Day 1: AT SRINAGAR
We stayed closer to Dal Lake. And, Shalimar Bagh is a 15 minutes’ drive from the hotel. You need one full day to explore Srinagar.

- Dal Lake – The Crowning Beauty of Srinagar
After an hour of relaxation, we walked along the banks of Dal Lake admiring its majestic beauty and the scintillating sunset with the rays mirroring everything on the water surface. We walked and walked, mesmerized in its beauty and the floating Shikara’s in the Dal Lake bringing in the most-dreamed beguiling romantic ride of Gondolas in Venice.

Day 2: AT GULMARG
Start early as the road trip from Srinagar to Gulmarg takes around an hour and a half. We took the Tangmarg route to reach Gulmarg. Have a good breakfast as it would take 7-8 hours to explore Gulmarg.
The road trip gets beautiful and picturesque with lush meadows grazed by unfettered sheep, cedars and pine trees lined up the hill, snow-clad mountains arising at the horizon, unending plump-sheep flocks blocking the road and an occasional stop at apple orchards.
The biggest attraction of Gulmarg is the gondola ride which is the second highest Gondola in the world. You can also book tickets online to avoid waiting in the long queues.
At the bus stand, you’re more likely to fall for the scams. We were scammed by the pony hawkers for the pony ride!
