Today, I was at Health & Glow outlet to buy an eye shadow palette which would give a Smokey eye effect.
Maybelline has 12 shades palette and out of the three: The nudes, The blushed nudes, and The Rock nudes, I chose the rock nudes for the varied matte and metallic shades. This is perfect for evening, creating edgy, Smokey eye shadow looks.
The Rock Nude shades can be blend as quads, trios, duos for better result. There’s a pictorial representation at the back side of the palette which illustrates on how to choose shades. Profusely, this serves as a guide for novice artists.
The pigment is light and one has to use an eye shadow base or a primer before applying it. This would ease blending as well as the shades stay longer.
The shade name is not found anywhere in the palette which is quite disappointing. If I want to refer it to my friends to choose a shade, I had to go with rows & columns. In fact, I’ve named swatches as matte and metallic based on shimmers. Lustrous shades with shimmers are identified as metallic shades.
Shades like Taupe, Medium taupe, and Purple taupe gives a natural look for dusky skin tones and blends well for Smokey eye effect. Silvery Taupe, Metallic Antique Gold, Fringe satin is an apt choice to highlight brow bone.
Its compact design will fit in your wallet and makes it easier to carry around!
How to create a Smokey eye effect:
You can choose any of the shade under quads. And I’m picking the last quads:
- Purple Taupe
- Metallic Blue
- Metallic Charcoal
- Carbon Black
First, apply a primer using an applicator or eye shadow brush. Then, color entire eye area with Purple Taupe. And, then shade eye-lid with Metallic Blue. Smudge and blend it well. Finally, contour the crease with Metallic Charcoal and line around eye with Carbon black.
This looks perfect for all evenings especially with black colored dresses!
