Hampi itinerary – top 5 things to do !!

The Ruins of Hampi – wherever I went, it felt like a huge bag of giant boulders fell and spilled across the land. Here are the top 5 things to do in Hampi to include in your 2 days Hampi Itinerary.
- Visit the temples and explore the ruins of Hampi
Our first day began with exploring the ruins of Hampi. The legacy of the Vijayanagara Empire is still felt today in the ruins of Hampi. It has been one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites since 1986.

We explored Monolithic Statue Temples in Hampi, Lotus Mahal in Zenana Enclosure, Virupaksha and Vittala Temple in Hampi.
2. Hire a bike to explore Anegundi Village in Hampi:
Our second day began with a trip to explore places across the river, including Anjaneya Hill and Sanapur Lake. We started early in the morning and had a quick breakfast at the hotel.

We took an auto to reach Virupaksha Temple from Hospet. We waited for the boat to go across the Tungabadhra River. Once the most happening place in Hampi was Hippie Island and is no more! It was demolished completely. We hired a bike and decided to go to Anegundi. The other side is known as Anegundi, a beautiful village filled with lush greenery and paddy fields.
3. Climb the Anjaneya Hill – A Divine Trek:
Anjaneya Hill is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. It is located in Anegundi and also known as Monkey Temple.

As it was a steep hill, and it was quite a challenge for me to climb, I decided to skip the place. However, it has almost 570 steps and would definitely take 40-50 minutes to climb up the hill. Anjaneya Hill is a beautiful divine trek to experience.
4. Visit the prominent temples at Anegundi:
We stopped at Sri Durga Temple and Chinthamani Temple at Anegundi.

The view of the river Tungabadra from Chinthamani Temple is amazing. As we entered, a local guide started following behind us and was explaining every detail of the temple.

As we walked, we found a cave, and he told us that Lord Rama had met Sugreeva for the first time to find Sita. Also, there was a footprint which was believed to be of Lord Rama where he aimed and shot Vaali.
5. Explore Sanapur Lake in Hampi – Memorable Coracle Ride!
Our last stop was at Sanapur Lake. Exploring Sanapur Lake in Hampi is a beautiful paradise!! The place is so serene to spend sometimes. Cliff jumping and coracle riding are top things to do in Sanapur Lake. People around told us that there might be crocodiles.

Although the coracle ride on the lake is so exhilarating, we didn’t try it. Our day two ends here. We reached the hotel around six in the evening.
So, did we like Hampi? Why is Hampi famous for?
The ruins of Hampi are so exciting and astonishing. Every piece of architecture that’s seen here is a masterpiece on its own. Even though it is a UNESCO Heritage site, some of the places are not hygienic to visit, especially nearby Virupaksha Temple and the riverside. People who sleep inside the temple during the night, use an open arena as a bathroom. Literally, some places were so stinky. This was the most disgusting part of our trip to Hampi.
We packed our breakfast from the hotel and carried our water bottles. We didn’t want to buy it anywhere in Hampi due to hygiene concerns. Despite all my efforts, I got terribly sick by the end of the trip! So, beware of it!
What is the best time to visit Hampi?
I would prefer to choose either December or January (winter season) to see Hampi. Because the place is so hot and the heat is so unbearable during mid-afternoon. So, start early, around 6 AM, and finish sightseeing before 12 PM. Then, take a break for lunch and go around after 2-3 PM.
Is Hampi really worth visiting?
Hampi is only for those enthusiasts who love architecture and ancient monuments.
Pin for later!

With luv,
