Ruins of hampi – heritage of vijayanagara empire

The Ruins of Hampi – wherever I went, it felt like a huge bag of giant boulders fell and spilled across the land. The legacy of the Vijayanagara Empire is still felt today in the ruins of Hampi. It has been one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites since 1986.
After a day trip in Bangalore, we boarded the bus to Hampi around 8 PM. We reached Hospet junction at 5 AM early in the morning, even before dawn. There were a group of people who got down along with us at the junction as it was the last stop.
It was a surreal experience as we were stranded in a place that was so unfamiliar to us. Auto-drivers began to cloud us and our bargaining skills didn’t work. We were quite bewildered about whether to reach the hotel we booked or head to Hampi. The stay that we had pre-booked was far away from the junction, and we missed it getting down to the hotel on the main road. We decided to head to Hampi and see Virupaksha Temple. There couldn’t be any better way to discover Hampi than getting yourself lost in its admiring beauty!

Virupaksha Temple Hampi:
There was an auto driver returning to Hampi, offering a ride for a fare of 100 Rs. It’s approximately 12 km from Hospet, and we reached Virupaksha Temple around 5:40 AM.

The mighty Virupaksha Temple with its magnificent towers welcomes you to Hampi.

As we waited on the stone bench at Virupaksha Temple for the sunrise, around 6:30 AM, Lazz and I checked around the bazaar to see if we could refresh and start the day. We refreshed in a small neighborhood and hired an auto to see places in Hampi.
With luv,
