Places to visit in pondicherry – a road trip!!

A road trip from Chennai to Pondicherry wasn’t a planned trip though!

I had to attend a team outing at a Village Resort in Chengalpattu. So, I had to leave early to catch the train. I met my friend at Pallavaram station and we took the Chengalpattu train, from there we booked a cab to the resort. Pondicherry is roughly 100 KM from here and would take just two and a half hours.

“Are you ready for a long drive?” I called up Lazz and asked.

“Yes, but where? I’m getting ready for the office.” He rushed.

“Pondicherry!” I told.

He said, “Done. I’ll be there by noon”. And that’s how we took this road trip to Pondicherry!

I bid farewell to friends and left the resort post-lunch with Lazz.

With relentless wind waving the hair springing from the tight bun and the shimmering roads at a distance, the greenery-soaked highways and the drive through the shade of huge trees made the day despite the grueling back pain. It was my first long bike ride and seemed like a long-due accomplishment completed today!

We stopped for a coffee break around 3:30 PM to fuel for the next 50 km distance. And, a long straight road led us into Pondicherry around 5 PM. We took a left turn and went to a beach for the first glimpse of Pondicherry. Couldn’t remember the beach name?

Why is Pondicherry so famous?

Is it because of the remarkable history of French buildings with the richness of French colonial architecture, or the beaches with a soft serenity, or the beautiful golden dome at Auroville, also called ‘The City of Dawn’, which gives a peaceful vibe as you enter and welcomes people across the globe, or the grandeur of the renowned Churches? Besides, the cheap liquor shop there is much more to this place!  There are beautiful places to visit in Pondicherry.

Is Pondicherry worth visiting for 2 days? Absolutely, yes! It is one of the best places to spend a long weekend in Pondicherry.

As it started to get dark, we checked for room availability at Prince Park Farm House. Lazz had been there earlier on his visit. It’s a nice place to stay with your family! The ambiance resembles a small village covered under a canopy of trees with turkeys and ducks strolling around. I liked it a lot! A little escapade from mundane corporate life!!

Promenade Beach Pondicherry:

We refreshed and went to Promenade Beach for an evening walk.  It’s a beautiful rock beach with boulders at the shore to prevent erosion. We walked along the seashore until the Gandhi statue and rested a while watching the rhythm of waves glittering in the moonlight as the warm salty breeze melts the night.

If you’re looking for the best weekend getaway from Chennai, this is it!! A beautiful road trip to love 🙂
