SHORES OF TIME – ST. ANTONY’S SHRINE, UVARI

As we walked the streets of this beautiful coastal village, the picturesque beach offers serenity in the warm sunny day. We halted at St. Antony’s Shrine, Uvari.
It’s walking distance from Kappal Matha Church. The church is also called as, “Uvari Anthoniyar Church”. There are only two places in Tamilnadu which has St. Antony church by the seashore and Uvari is one among them!
The wide open spaces gleaming in the sunshine and we sat for a while in the shaded area loving the tranquility.
“Have you ever witnessed the feast here?” Lazz, sitting beside me asked. No, I told him. This was my second visit. He has visited a lot of time with his cousin and their families during the annual family trip. He would be playing cricket with his cousins when the elderly rests for a while. Church rooms are available here. However, it’s quite difficult to get during church festival. You can bring your dishes to cook and eat. They drive down here from Tanjore to attend the feast.
Uvari Beach :
The turquoise waters of the Uvari beach mesmerize you!! Go for a walk at night. It’s such a wonderful experience!
The church beholds a history of St. Antony’s miracles, of which restoring the health of Portuguese crew, when their ship docked at Uvari is still, the talk of the village. Have faith and your prayers will be heard!
It was around 12:30 PM we started to Athisaya Manal Matha church, at Sokkan kudieruppu, which is approximately 15 kms from Uvari Anthoniyar Church.
