How to grow shallots from bulbs

ONION

Have you ever thought on how to grow shallots from bulbs?

After a year into gardening, I found Shallots are easy to grow.  Well drained soil and sunny place are sufficient for its growth.  They don’t require much of water as they thrive well in arid conditions. Almost all my plants were ravaged during the cyclonic storm except these Shallots.

They are pests-free and mulching the soil will prevent weeds. If you would like to grow it in containers, then a good potting mix will facilitates its growth and balance moisture.

When you see bulb emerges above the soil and the plant starts to wither, it’s time for harvest. Today, I harvested a handful of shallots from my garden. Loosen the soil and uproot the plant with a spade. Dry the plants in shade for ten days and will be ready for storage.

Three little Shallots gave me 23 more. It’s a good start for the year!

With luv,
